Tuesday, October 22 – Parking in Corvallis: A Community Conversation

Everyone is invited to this
CONVERSATION
  ON PARKING IN CORVALLIS

Tuesday, October 22, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm
at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library
645 NW Monroe Ave., Corvallis

Lisa Scherf, Corvallis Transportation Services Supervisor, will present information on the City’s current parking management programs. Her presentation will be followed by facilitated table discussions in an effort to identify problematic parking issues in all sectors of the City. This free event is sponsored by the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition’s Land Use Action Team and the League of Women Voters of Corvallis.

The conversation will include parking for a variety of needs – commuter and resident, employee and employer, downtown and citywide, and special needs. Results of table discussions and participant comments will be summarized by the Sustainability Coalition’s Land Use Action Team and published on the Team’s web page (https://sustainablecorvallis.org/action-teams/land-use/).

This conversation is the first of several programs focused on parking. A second meeting later in the year will feature experts who will present possible strategies to address problematic parking issues. The goal of these public meetings is to identify what trade-offs community members would be willing to make, in order to inform decisionmakers as changes to parking management programs are proposed.

The City of Corvallis has a parking program audit underway, due to be completed by early 2020. The City Council has declared a moratorium on expanding or adding parking districts through June 30, 2020, as it reviews the cost and effectiveness of this parking management tool. OSU is evaluating transportation management in its continuing effort to reduce the drive alone rate to campus (https://transportation.oregonstate.edu/transportation-options). The October 22nd event will offer community members an opportunity to express their views.
