Engaging in Our Democracy: Ways to Expand Voter Access
November 16, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Join the League of Women Voters and the NAACP Corvallis/Albany Chapter for an engaging discussion on creative ways to expand voter access and education! Webinar link below.
Scott Duncombe, Co-Founder of Pizza to the Polls, and Power the Polls
Catalyzing people to engage in democracy through creative avenues is at the heart of Scott’s work. Power the Polls was established in 2020 in response to a shortage of poll workers nationwide due to COVID-19, leading to 700,000 people stepping up to meet that challenge and support democracy by making elections ran smoothly and everyone’s vote was counted. And in 2016, in response to long lines reported at early voting locations around the country, Pizza to the Polls was born. Since 2016 Pizza to the Polls has grown wildly, sending nearly 100,000 free pizzas to feed people in poll lines across 48 states, as well as launching a Food Truck program across 29 cities.
Senator Sara Gelser Blouin, District 8
Senator Gelser Blouin is a chief co-sponsor of Senate Bill 571, focused on allowing people convicted of felonies to register to vote, update voter registration and vote in elections while incarcerated. If passed, this would make Oregon just the third state in the nation allowing people to vote while incarcerated for felonies and would restore voting rights to the roughly 12,600 prisoners in custody around the state.
Dylan Perfect, Vice President of Associated Students of Oregon State University (ASOSU)
As the Vice President of ASOSU and a fourth year political science honors student at OSU, Dylan will be speaking about how OSU is thinking creatively about how to engage as many students in their voting rights as possible. This includes OSU’s TurboVote system, available to OSU faculty, students, and staff to support easy and efficient voter registration, update registration information, and receive election reminders.
