Concurrence Proposal on the Oregon Primary System
March 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Tutorial/discussion on Concurrence Proposal on the Oregon Primary System (2023)
This concurrence being proposed by members from across the state and will be voted on at LWVOR state convention in Eugene the weekend of May 19-21. In order to be an active voice for issues important to us we MUST have a position from which to take a stand. This concurrence will allow us to do that without a full study. There are proposed ballot measures and well as bills in the Oregon state Legislature covering these topics.
Learn what is in the proposal, ask questions and express your opinions as to whether the state League should support this proposal.
LWVOR supports:
affiliation; or
ii. those candidates receiving a predetermined percentage of the total
primary votes
There will also be updates on what is happening in the legislaturewith proposed bills on rank choice voting and with ballot measures that include election reforms, open primaries, changing the Presidential primary from May to March, and Electoral Collegereform (National Popular Vote). This discussion will be led by Barbara Klein – member of the LWVOR Elections Committee and action chair for the League of Women Voters of Rogue Valley. She has also served on several LWVUS Task Forces.
The program will start at noon with a chance to visit and announcements. Barbara will be joining us from Ashland in the Rogue Valley about 12:15. There will be time for questions and opinions after her presentation.
